From Aug 8 to 13,Meet the Intangible Cultural Heritage - Traditional Music of the Dong Ethnic Minorityperformed at the China Arts and Crafts Museum and China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum. Teachers and students of KLU’s“Ga Neng Lang” Grand Song of Dong Choir sang Dong songs on the stage of the capital Beijing. The multi-voice, unaccompanied and un-conducted celestial music flowed like fresh spring water in the performance hall, and the scene was filled with thunderous applause and a warm atmosphere.
KLU has long been committed to the preservation and inheritance of ethnic and folk cultures. On June 16 2023, The State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the People’s Government of Guizhou Province formally signed an agreement on cooperation to build KLU. At the beginning of July, the China Arts and Crafts Museum and the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum invited KLU to participate in a series of social and educational activities organized by the museum,Meet the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
For 6 consecutive days, the troupe offered a fine program of Dong songs, Dong pipa songs, ox-legged zither playing, Dong opera, flute songs, which brings the audience to the green mountains and waters of colorful Guizhou to listen to the new voice of the ancient Dong people.
Founded in 2003, KLU’s“Ga Neng Lang” Dong Song Choir has won the gold medal at the Third Chinese Folk Song Choir Festival and the silver medal at the Twelfth China Young Singer Televised Competition. Also,“Ga Neng Lang”has participated in the 2011 CCTV Spring Festival Gala and was invited to the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and has visited France, Germany and Thailand representing Guizhou Province and Qiandongnan Autonomous Prefecture, singing the sound of unity, harmony and progress of the Chinese nation.
After the performance, the audience enthusiastically took photos with members of the performing troupe, and some of them even consulted the customs of the Dong people, as well as music inheritance and the current situation of the protection of non-heritage.
