21 exchange students from Vietnam and Cambodia and 3 international volunteers went to "Ancient Chinese paper-making village" - Shiqiao Village of Danzhai County to experience cultural accompanying by Xu Hanhui, the director of teaching and research of Chinese as a foreign language on December 2.
These exchange students were soon attracted by the ancient method of papermaking workshops, where exhibits tools like stone ponds, earthen heater for drying paper, and wooden tanks for making wood pulp. After viewing the whole production of making paper by some paper masters, with the help of Xu Hanhui, some exchange students experienced the ancient method of papermaking by making herb paper by themselves. They were shocked at the cultural uniqueness and ancient crafts when visiting a paper street with long history, in which the ancient wooden buildings with doors hanging paper lanterns.
Xu told us that the ancient paper-making experience as a part of cultural and educational practice enable the exchange students to intuitively feel the history and culture of China, contributing to the promotion of Southeast Guizhou minority culture.
The ancient paper-making craft has been perfectly remained and completely inherited in Shiqiao village, Danzhai. As one of the raw material, cedar is abundant here; such an environment-friendly craft has existed for almost 2,000 years.
