School of Art grew out of Art Section of Qiandongnan Teacher’s College in 1981. In 1982, the specialties of music and fine arts were formally brought into line with the National Unified Entrance Examination. School of Art is the first college undertaking art education in Guizhou province.
In 1987, the Art Section includes Music Section and Fine Arts Section separately. In 1988, the Music Section and the Fine Arts Section developed into the Music Department and the Fine Arts Department respectively. In 1996, by the approval of the document of Qiandongnan state lettering (1996)006, these two departments were upgraded to undergraduate teaching level. In 2003, Music Department and Fine Arts Department firstly recruited 5-year-course junior college students with starting point of junior middle school. In 2006, Music Department and Guizhou Normal University jointly recruited the first undergraduates. On August 27th, 2008, School of Art was formally established. There are two 5-year-course junior college specialties, music and fine arts; five undergraduate specialties, namely, musicology, dance, music performance, fine arts, and art design are set up as well.
School of Artm has achieved fruitful teaching results. Teachers and students have won many national and provincial awards. Graduates can be found all over the country with good social echo. There are 57 teachers in service, including 3 professors, 12 associate professors, 13 teachers with master’s degree, and more than 10 part-time professors. The number of students is more than 1223.
